No More Waiting in 2015

One of the most difficult things about being a writer is waiting. Waiting is always hard, but for me it seems I spent way too much time waiting in 2014.

I waited for inspiration to strike before I even started an article or the opening sentence of a new book. I waited for my muse to kick my writer’s butt out of my chair, but Candy Crush Saga was evidently stronger. I waited for writer’s block to disappear while I sipped my loose-leaf green tea, drank my pot of Joe, and even licked the rim of my margarita glass. I waited to revise my third novel because I was afraid it wouldn’t be as good as I thought the second time around. I waited to send out my articles until the day before the deadline for no particular reason except I forgot. (It could have been that Candy Crush thing, but I’m not sure). I waited to hear from one editor  for over 6 months before I sent my second novel to another editor.

Even though I saw several articles, one non-fiction ebook, and my first picture book published in 2014, I wasted too much time waiting this year. Well I am not waiting anymore. 2015 is my year to unwait! What? Unwait is not a word. You forget, I am a writer and writer’s often create their own words, so I am pledging to unwait this coming year.
  • I will unwait for inspiration—I will find it anywhere and everywhere
  • I will unwait for my muse—I will listen to its whisper and write, write, write
  • I will unwait for writer’s block to disappear—I will drink my tea, coffee, and well, you know, threw a straw if necessary to keep my fingers on the keys.
  • I will unwait to revise—I will look forward to revising my words so my text is grammatically correct, clear, and exciting, but stay aware of over-revising.
  • I will unwait to send my articles out—I will send them out as soon as they are written.
  • I will unwait on editors—I will research publishers, make good choices, and simultaneously submit.
  • I will unwait for rejections—I will move on to another project as soon as the last one is submitted.

So, 2015 is my year to unwait. How about you?
